Join AIA Kansas City's Young Architects Forum (YAF) and the SEAKM Young Member Group (YMG) for a joint installment of the 2026 Site Series, a site walk of the Barney Allis Plaza redevelopment in the heart of downtown Kansas City. Event sponsored by McCownGordon Construction.

This one is a rare look at major below-grade construction. The project replaces the plaza's aging 1954 parking garage with a new subterranean parking structure, topped by a reimagined three-acre civic green space with event lawns, a pavilion, play areas, and a dog park. Participants will get an up-close view of the excavation, shoring, and structural systems that make a build like this possible, a great crossover learning opportunity for emerging architects and structural engineers alike.

The walk will be led by the McCownGordon construction team and the Building Enclosure Council (BEC), followed by a happy hour just down the street at John's Big Deck to connect with peers across both organizations.

Registration & Requirements

Attendance is limited to 30 participants on a first-come, first-served basis, shared between YAF and SEAKM. All attendees must wear proper PPE: High-visibility vests, safety glasses, pants, boots.
