The Project
Wellner Architects + Engineers had the opportunity to move from inside the interstate loop of Downtown Kansas City, Missouri’s Historic Garment District, to the heart of creativity known as the Crossroads District. Our mission was to create innovative, sustainable, and community-focused space that offered a sense of place for the office, and the staff. With this new office, we aimed to further our commitment to serving the thriving Kansas City community and contribute to its architectural landscape and the Main Street transportation corridor created by the streetcar. Located at street level of the historic 1921 Mainmark building, our new office is strategically positioned to reflect Wellner Architects + Engineers' commitment to contextual design and creating collaborative, flexible, and inspiring office environments.

The Firm
Julie B. Wellner, AIA, established Wellner Architects, Inc. in 1987, and transitioned to Wellner Architects + Engineers in 2024 when MEP Engineering services were added. In January 2025, ownership changed to include Emily Marsh, AIA, President and majority owner, Jason Barker, AIA, Principal of Architecture, and Cory Wilson, PE, Principal of Engineering. The firm has maintained a consistent staff of qualified architects, planners, interior designers, and engineers with diverse project experience ranging from large-scale new construction to detailed remodeling and renovation. While building and facility types cover a wide spectrum of uses, the firm continues to thrive in the areas of science and technology, aviation, higher education, and public facilities.
