Founded in 1973, SFS Architecture is a full-service architecture, interior design, and planning firm dedicated to creating dynamic, community-centered spaces. Located in Kansas City’s Crossroads District, our studio occupies a thoughtfully repurposed space within the historic Creamery Building.

Now celebrating 10 years in the Crossroads, the SFS office continues to serve as a vibrant studio environment—blending modern workplace strategies with the character of the existing structure. Abundant natural light, historic architectural elements, and expansive views of the downtown skyline enrich the space, while access to the building’s rooftop deck—host of this AIA Cocktails & Conversations event—extends the studio experience beyond its walls. The space reflects our pride in being part of the Crossroads District, known for its creative energy, art, and culture.

In 2025, the firm’s ownership transitioned to its third generation. Building on the foundation established by founders Mike Shaughnessy, Mike Fickel, and Bill Scott, and on the growth guided by second-generation owners Kerry Newman, Mike Christianer, and Marsha Hoffman, new owners Kelly Stindt, AIA, Brian Garvey, AIA, Kwame Smith, AIA, and Dana Gould, AIA, are excited to carry that legacy forward in continued service to our communities.

Central to that legacy is the strength of our team, whose talent, dedication, and collaborative spirit bring each project to life.
