Join us for a panel discussion where we’ll define sustainable design, discuss the challenges of recycling, and learn how Hallmark kicked off their sustainability program. Attendees will have a chance to win a raffle for Michael Braungart's book Cradle to Cradle. There will also be an upcycled notebook made from Hammerpress misprints giveaway.

Matt Riggs, Mid-America Regional Council
Matt Riggs, Outreach Coordinator for the MARC Solid Waste Management District, provides recycling outreach and education throughout the Kansas City metro area, coordinates the Kansas City Environmental Education Network, and manages the MARC Green Team. He has an alter ego by the name of Eco Elvis which he uses to “edutain” people about recycling and environmental issues.

Emily Akins, Hallmark
Emily Akins is an Editorial Director at Hallmark Cards and an environmental activist with an emphasis on local food. For 5 years she led the KC Food Circle, a non-profit organization supporting sustainable farmers, and for 12 years she has led the Hallmark EcoTeam, an employee resource group where people from across the company gather once a month to learn about the ways we interact with the environment both at home and at work. She lives in KCMO and shares her passion for sustainability with her spouse and two kids. Other accomplishments:
works to create zero wast to landfill initiatives across the company. Incorporated closed-loop principles in a project involving envelope waste.

Joyce Raybuck, BNIM
Joyce Raybuck, AIA, LEED AP is a Studio Director and architect at BNIM. A graduate of The Pennsylvania State University, she has extensive experience on higher education projects, working for institutions such as the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Yale, Harvard and the University of California at San Diego. Additionally, Joyce was adjunct faculty at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she taught third and fourth year design studios.

As an architect, Joyce has over 10 years of experience infusing sustainable design principles into her practice in architecture. Her work spans continents with projects that include U.S. embassies in London and Kampala, Uganda.
