USGBC: Health in the Built Environment The Well Building Standard

6:00 PM
Populous | 4800 Main Street Kansas City, MO 64112 Map

Join the USGBC Central Plains and our partners from ASID, DBIA, Populous and Forte Building Science, a divison of M.E. GROUP for a special presentation on the WELL Building Standard™, an evidence-based system for measuring, certifying and monitoring the performance of building features that impact health and well-being.

Building owners and designers hear plenty about health and wellness regarding the indoor environment. Sit/stand workstations, open offices, sick building syndrome, and fitness rooms are just a few examples. It can be challenging to separate fads from genuine innovations, and to evaluate the relative merits of investments in wellness. This presentation provides an overview of wellness as it relates to the built environment, building off strong evidence from research. The WELL Building Standard is administered by the International WELL Building Institute™ (IWBI) and provides a framework for organizing strategies to achieve optimum human comfort and outcomes from investments in the built environment, emphasizing physiological and psychological quality.

Forte Building Science presenters, Marcel Harmon, WELL AP, PE, PhD, LEED AP O+M, and Stuart Shell, WELL AP, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, will guide us through their experience applying the WELL Building Standard to their projects, share lessons learned and how their projects are monitoring performance over time.
