Nooniversity:Fabric Architecture - The New Way to Dress a Building

12:00 PM
Center for Architecture & Design | 1801 McGee, Suite 100 Kansas City, MO 64108 Map

Join Structurflex for this program on facade screening systems.

Fabric façade screening systems have been booming in the US to provide attractive energy efficient designs to facades of buildings and dressing up parking garages.  However, traditional metal mesh or perforated metal materials are very expensive.  Tensile facades (aka: textile, fabric, flexible or bioclimatic facades) are a new way of dressing a façade very economically up to 50% less expensive and have up to a 30-year life expectancy. Tensile facades provide an economical shading or screening system on a facade of a building or parking garage using exterior grade tensile mesh, membrane or clear foil/film. These various tensile materials are framed and tensioned by aluminum extrusion system either large surface mounted panels or individual modular panels with structural steel standoffs and embeds.

We will cover the various materials on the market, typical details and various installations around the world.  We will cover how this European façade screening system is sustainable – using various tensile meshes reduce solar heat gain, reduce glare and provide significant energy savings.  Also, we will cover how tensile meshes have a lower embodiment of energy to manufacturer as well and most tensile meshes are 100% recyclable.

This program is worth 1 HSW and lunch will be provided.
