IMI: Cost-Effective Masonry: Designing to Save Money

11:30 AM
The Builders Association Education and Training Center | 105 West 12th Ave North Kansas City, MO 64116 Map

Although many designers may think that aesthetics and function dictate what gets built, it is often cost and schedule that determines the design.  It is possible to obtain form and function with low cost, but often you have to know the tricks.  This presentation will look at masonry construction and where true value engineering can be used.  From using different sized brick units to designing masonry for its full strength, there are ways to bring in a masonry project for a lot less than you may think.  Also, this presentation will include a recent cost study showing the initial costs of multi-family buildings using different structural materials.  Recent articles about the cost of competing materials and their low cost are far-fetched.  This presentation will provide you with all the tools necessary to design a cost-effective masonry structure.
