The Building Enclosure Council of Kansas City is pleased to announce our next session on September 22nd. We will be gathering at 6pm with the presentation starting shortly afterwards. Please note that the session will be located at AIA-Kansas City at 1801 McGee on the first level.
Our guest speakers will be Michael Gainey, Jerry Schwabauer & Patrick Muessig of Azon USA Inc. They will be travelling to Kansas City specifically for this presentation, so please make plans to attend.
The session will focus on: Optimizing Performance in Commercial Fenestration
Course description: Participants will learn about two technologies – structural thermal barriers for aluminum window framing, and warm-edge spacer technology for insulating glass.
• Discuss the various comfort and performance-related topics in fenestration systems including, overall U-factor, condensation resistance factor (CRF), sound transmission OITC (Outdoor Indoor Transmission Class)
• Compare two methods for optimizing the performance of aluminum fenestration components through the application of thermal barriers in the framing
• Optimize the performance of fenestration components through the application of thermal barriers in the air space material, also known as warm-edge technology for insulating glass
• Observe a range of measured performance outcomes, energy-savings,
LEED® and Cradle to Cradlesm contribution using case study data of built commercial projects in the U.S. and globally utilizing one or both types of thermal barriers in the frame and insulating glass

The session will be worth (1) AIA/CES Learning Unit (HSW/SD)
The Session is open to all trades and professions related to building design, construction, maintenance and property management.

The Architect Roundtable Meeting will host Mr. John Pajor from Kansas City Planning and Development Department. Mr. Pajor will present the exciting activities that the Kansas City Business Customer Service Center offers to architects and small architecture firms.

The Business Customer Service Center primarily helps entrepreneurs to understand and fulfill local government requirements for their business. The Development Assistance Center provides support services to architects and builders. We can assist with predevelopment meetings and questions related to the development process. Phil Thomas, President of A.L. Huber general contractor will talk about the REDI (Renewable Energy Demonstration Initiative) project installed this year at A.L. Huber’s headquarters in Overland Park. REDI is a demonstration project established to provide educational opportunities in wind and solar energy to public and private companies or individuals who are interested in the future of energy. Components to the REDI project include: the VQ WindJet 5 – first-of-its-kind wind turbine; SunPower photo-voltaic panels; the Energy Center demonstration and monitoring room; a “green wall”; reclaimed wood siding; and other sustainable elements within the building.
