AIA Chapter Events > Design U.Nooniversity:Phase Change Material & Passive Cooling in Large Venues
12:00 PM
Center for Architecture & Design | 1801 McGee, Suite 100 Kansas City, MO 64108 Map
Join Henderson Engineers for this program on phase change material and passive cooling.
Maintaining occupant comfort in large venues such as stadiums or arenas can be both difficult and costly, but it remains a top priority when designing and operating a venue. This presentation will discuss a new application for phase change material (PCM) that can be used for ambient cooling in stadium environments to improve overall fan comfort. We’ll discuss the research behind this idea, the potential applications, and the benefits and drawbacks of this strategy.
Topics will include:
1. What phase change material is.
2. The research process used to develop this application.
3. How passive cooling strategies can be utilized to maintain occupant comfort.
4. The best (and worst) environments in which to implement phase change material as a cooling strategy.
This program is worth 1 LU and lunch will be provided.
