Nooniversity: Stage 1

12:00 PM
Center for Architecture & Design | 1801 McGee, Suite 100 Kansas City, MO 64108 Map

Join Terracon for this presentation on subsurface conditions.

Design that fully accounts for risk requires an in-depth understanding of subsurface soil, rock, groundwater, and the potential for movement.  We spend weeks, sometimes months, and thousands of dollars to conduct geotechnical investigations. We routinely progress with preliminary designs as if on the Planet Mars with no data to assist in our exploration. We have been here before, yet we so often forget.   In a world where predictive analytics are surging, we must take advantage of valuable historical assets, and combine that with an explosion of publicly available GIS information to predict subsurface conditions and reduce risk for the entire design and construction team.

Topics will include:
Identify the impetus for using technology to improve site characterization and reduce risk earlier in the design process.
Examine geo-referenced historical boring logs to determine expected subsurface conditions
Identify subsurface and development concerns before field explorations to aid in preliminary budgets and general foundation designs.
Establish the benefit to the Architect in comparing site development costs

This program is worth 1 HSW and lunch will be provided.
