IMI | Structural Masonry Notes, Prototypes, and Details

Masonry Notes for Structural Drawings will be discussed, such as how and why to specify each element of structural masonry (specifically for block strength, mortar type and grout strength). The discussion will also include comments about general notes and common errors. The masonry prototypes portion of the seminar will include partition wall design, and relevant details. Common masonry tall walls will be discussed including school gymnasiums, as well as, flexible corridor walls. During the masonry details series portion of the seminar general 2D and 3D structural masonry details will be evaluated, such as how and when to use the details, the limitations of each detail and common “typical” masonry detail errors.

Brady has 14 years of experience in structural engineering. He began his career as a structural engineer with a design firm in the Denver area, where he worked for eleven years on a wide variety of masonry projects such recreation centers, medical office buildings, and university buildings.

Brady joined FORSE Consulting in 2013, and has assisted other structural engineers in designing several masonry projects and building types. FORSE Consulting has been working with the IMI Structural Masonry Coalitions since 2010, and Brady has given numerous presentations focusing on masonry analysis and design. While with FORSE Consulting, Brady has used computer software from RISA Technologies, TEKLA, and IES to design masonry structures and components.

Brady has a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and is a licensed professional engineer (PE) in Colorado.
