BEC: Simple Steps for Construction Managers to Ensure High Performing Enclosures

11:30 AM
Center for Architecture & Design | 1801 McGee, Suite 100 Kansas City, MO 64108 Map

We know properly constructing the building enclosure can be extremely complex and insurance companies pay out hundreds of millions of dollars every year because of water and moisture damage to our buildings.  What if someone could help you find a simple step by step process to reduce your risk of enclosure related issues and it works for all types of building enclosures?  This presentation is based upon NIBS Guide Line 3 – Commissioning of Building Enclosure, and the various ASTM Guides and standards along with years of experience constructing buildings to this process around the United States. The speaker will walk you through tried and true processes from actual construction projects, in a simple and easy to understand manner so you are able to apply these processes on your next project!

Learning Objectives

Discuss Why Building Enclosures Matter for Energy Efficiency, Sustainability, and Durability and that Every Building is a Prototype

Provide Standard Operating Procedures in Pre-Design and Pre-Construction Activities such as: Team Matrix, Plan Reviews, Pre-Installation Meetings

Discuss types of Mock Ups, and their Lessons Learned, which leads to Built in Quality Process for actual Installations on the building

Review Site Validation & In Situ Testing methods / Quality Control Processes During Installations to ensure the final product meets the performance standards for the project.
