The intention of this skylight atrium and tenant build-out was to bring light and improved environmental conditions into a converted warehouse built in the 1940’s. The solution involved the integration of art and architecture in two areas; the Atrium light machine and a privacy screen for the office area.

Constructed with a series of shingled dichroic panels that change transparency and color from various vantage points and as light strikes them from different angles, the light machine imparts a sense of joy within the atrium. This transformative focal point suggests a sense of time and season as the sun changes.

The privacy screen is composed of a multi-purpose cabinet with acrylic rods projecting from the top in a random pattern. Some rods incorporate LED components that provide accent light; other rods are hollow and filled with the dichroic film. Together, the acrylic rods provide a contextual connection to the Atrium.
